LLVM 11

The release of the LLVM toolset compatible with GCC has taken place. In particular, as an experiment Flang – a front-end for the Fortran language – has been included.

Significantly:

  • Migration of the build system towards the use of Python 3 has begun. The 2nd version of the language is still supported as a 'fallback' option.
  • Support for AST recovery is included, which simplifies error tracing in code, even with additional utilities. Example
  • New warning groups: -Wpointer-to-int-cast, -Wuninitialized-const-reference, and -Wimplicit-const-int-float-conversion. The last one is enabled by default.
  • A set of extended integer types _ExtInt(N) has been added, allowing for types that are not a power of two. Yes, you can now create 'ints' that are multiples of any number!
  • A whole bunch of improvements in Clang, including new features for many platforms, including x86, ARM, and RISC-V, improved performance, new functions for working with OpenCL (and ROCm) and OpenMP..
