At the request of RIAA, the main repository of the source code for youtube-dl and all its forks on github.com have been blocked. All download links and documentation from the site https://youtube-dl.org return a 404 error, but the page on pypi.org (packages for pip that require Python) remains operational.
youtube-dl is a popular open-source program for downloading video and audio files from various popular websites: YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, BandCamp, VK, Odnoklassniki, Yandex Music… RIAA's claims are related to the presence of code blocks and tests that are clearly intended for downloading copyrighted videos meant only for viewing.
Although all scripts remain accessible (with some effort), the main value of the project was in regularly tracking changes in the APIs of supported sites and quickly adapting scripts to modifications.
