Intel has introduced the Iris Xe MAX graphics chip, designed for thin laptops. This graphics chip is the first representative of discrete graphics based on the Xe architecture. The Iris Xe MAX platform utilizes Deep Link technology (description linked in detail) and supports PCIe Gen 4. Deep Link technology will be supported on Linux in tools like VTune and OpenVINO.
In gaming tests, the Iris Xe MAX competes with the NVIDIA GeForce MX350, and in video encoding, Intel promises it will outperform the NVIDIA RTX 2080 SUPER NVENC by two times.
Currently, Intel Iris Xe MAX graphics are available in devices such as the Acer Swift 3x, Asus VivoBook Flip TP470, and Dell Inspiron 15 7000 2-in-1.
In addition to mobile devices, Intel is working on using discrete graphics for desktop PCs in the first half of 2021.
