Released stable release EiskaltDC++ v2.4.1 — cross-platform client for networks Direct Connect and Advanced Direct Connect. Builds prepared for various Linux distributions, Haiku, macOS, and Windows. Maintainers of many distributions have already updated packages in the official repositories.
Main changes since the version 2.2.9, released 7.5 years ago:
General Changes
- Added support for OpenSSL >= 1.1.x (support for OpenSSL 1.0.2 is maintained).
- Significant improvements for the program's operation on macOS and Haiku.
- Official support for Debian GNU/Hurd.
- File search via DHT is enabled by default. The server dht.fly-server.ru is added to the list of servers for obtaining the initial list of available nodes.
- Removed Boost! libraries from build dependencies! Successfully limited to C++14 standard capabilities, allowing the program to be built on quite old systems.
- Conducted a major refactoring of the source code, addressing issues identified by static code analyzers (cppcheck, clang).
- Partial synchronization of the libeiskaltdcpp library code with the DC++ 0.868 core.
eiskaltdcpp-qt
- Added support for building the program with Qt 5.x libraries. Compatibility with Qt 4.x libraries is maintained.
- Added support for relative paths to resource files (icons, sounds, translations, etc.), enabling the program to be packaged in AppImage and snap.
- Added support for hubs nmdcs:// .
- Significantly improved the settings dialog.
- Improved the display of magnet links for the BitTorrent protocol in chats. (Only the display; clicking on them still launches an external program.)
- Improved the dialogs for viewing magnet links and calculating TTH: added buttons for copying magnet links and search links.
- Added a search panel in the 'Debug Console' widget.
- The option to change the font for the entire application has been removed from settings. The system font is now always used in context menus, text labels, indicators, etc. Font settings for chat messages remain unchanged.
- Fixed the operation of the IP filter.
- Changed the response to the hotkey Ctrl+F in chats: now it does not hide the search panel upon re-pressing, but behaves like the search panel in web browsers.
- HTML text formatting has been discontinued in the tooltip for the system tray icon in GNU/Linux and FreeBSD systems due to display issues in the newer versions of KDE Plasma 5. Now, plain text is used across all systems and DE.
- A new widget called 'Secretary' has been added to search for messages containing magnet links and/or keywords. Users no longer need to sift through tons of irrelevant messages across multiple hubs to find something interesting; 'Secretary' will do it for them.
- Context menus for messages in private chats have been fixed.
eiskaltdcpp-gtk
- Various minor and major bugs have been fixed.
- Crashes have become less frequent, but not all have been resolved. For example, crashes may occur when using the search widget.
eiskaltdcpp-daemon
- Search query results are now filtered on the daemon side: results are returned via JSON-RPC only for the last search query. This approach is less flexible than before but simplifies client implementations. For example, in the official web interface.
From plans for the future especially include:
- Adding IPv6 support in the kernel.
- Using Hunspell library instead of Aspell for spell checking in eiskaltdcpp-qt.
- Ending support for Qt 4.x and Qt 5.x older than 5.12.
- Discontinuing support and completely removing eiskaltdcpp-gtk.
- Removing XML-RPC support from eiskaltdcpp-daemon.
