Mark Kettenis, one of the active developers of OpenBSD, announced the successful booting of OpenBSD in multi-user mode on an Apple device with an M1 processor. Currently, not all necessary changes for M1 support have been accepted into the main OpenBSD code repository, as they are essentially hacks. However, this marks the beginning, and there are plans to continue working on support for this platform. In particular, basic support for the Broadcom BCM4378 Wi-Fi chip, which comes with Apple devices powered by the M1 processor, has recently been added to the bwfm driver.
