A stable release of the interface for simplifying network parameter configuration is available — NetworkManager 1.30.0. Plugins for supporting VPN, OpenConnect, PPTP, OpenVPN, and OpenSWAN are being developed within their own development cycles.
Key innovations in NetworkManager 1.30:
- Support for building with the standard C library Musl has been implemented.
- Support for Veth (Virtual Ethernet) devices has been added.
- Support for new capabilities of the ethtool utility regarding the use of offload handlers for the network interface card has been added.
- Support for 192-bit mode WPA3 Enterprise Suite-B has been introduced.
- The dhcpcd plugin now requires at least dhcpcd-9.3.3 with the ‘—noconfigure’ option.
- An option ‘ipv4.dhcp-client-id=ipv6-duid’ (RFC4361) has been added.
- New settings for managing the hostname determination based on reverse DNS resolution or through DHCP have been implemented.
- Support for reading and writing key file formats has been added in libnm. The license for libnm code has changed from GPL 2.0+ to LGPL-2.1+.
- The rd.net.timeout.carrier option has been added to initrd and support for the new ‘link6’ method for IPv6 with link-local addresses has been provided.
