Owners of the Intel NUC7PJYH mini-computer based on the Intel Pentium J5005 Gemini Lake CPU have encountered issues with the operation of Linux and Unix-like operating systems after updating the BIOS to version 0058. Up until using BIOS version 0057, there were no issues with Linux, FreeBSD, or NetBSD (although there was a separate issue with OpenBSD), but after updating to BIOS version 0058, a failure occurred when using Linux and Unix-like operating systems due to an ACPI problem. Licensed Windows 10 operated normally on this machine.
An error report was published on the official Intel NUC forum in mid-January 2021. About ten users confirmed the issue, facing similar problems after the update. Intel removed version 0058 from the 'Software Download Center' and suggested either replacing the hardware or waiting for a BIOS update. On February 25, 2021, a new BIOS was announced on the Intel NUC forum, which is currently available to a limited number of beta testers. If the testers confirm the resolution of the problem, the new BIOS version will soon be available to everyone.
