The release of the Live distribution NomadBSD 1.4 is available, representing a FreeBSD edition tailored for use as a portable desktop, bootable from a USB drive. The graphical environment is based on the Openbox window manager. DSBMD is used for mounting drives (supporting CD9660, FAT, HFS+, NTFS, Ext2/3/4). The size of the boot image is 2.4 GB (x86_64).
In the new release:
- Synchronized with the FreeBSD 12.2 branch (p4);
- The installer now includes the installation of an appropriate graphical driver and resolves issues with booting via UEFI.
- Improved automatic detection of the graphical driver. If the driver is not selected, a fallback to VESA or SCFB drivers is provided.
- Enhanced touchpad support. Added the DSBXinput utility for easier configuration of the mouse and touchpad.
- Added an rc script to save and restore screen brightness settings.
- A graphical interface has been added to simplify the installation of Linux builds of Chrome, Brave, and Vivaldi, through which you can work with Netflix, Prime Video, and Spotify.
- Added the ability to choose an alternative window manager by pressing F1 on the login screen.
- NetworkMgr is now used instead of wifimgr for configuring wireless connections.
- The subsystem for autostarting applications has been aligned with XDG specifications.
- Remaining disk space is now mounted to the /data partition. Automatic creation of the mount points /compat, /var/tmp, /var/db, and /usr/ports has been ensured.
- Due to the obsolescence of the drm-legacy-kmod driver, support for graphics acceleration on the i386 architecture using Intel and AMD GPUs has been discontinued.
