The beta release of the openSUSE Leap 15.3 distribution has been published, based on the core package set of SUSE Linux Enterprise with some user applications from the openSUSE Tumbleweed repository. A universal DVD image, 4.3 GB in size (x86_64, aarch64, ppc64les, 390x), is available for download. The release of openSUSE Leap 15.3 is expected in July 2021.
Unlike previous releases of openSUSE Leap, version 15.3 is built not by reassembling the src packages of SUSE Linux Enterprise, but using a unified binary package set with SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 SP 3. It is expected that using the same binary packages in SUSE and openSUSE will simplify migration between the two distributions, save resources on package building, update distribution, and testing, unify differences in spec files, and provide a clearer diagnostic process in handling error messages. The Xfce desktop has been updated to version 4.16.
