A release of the specialized distribution Tails 4.17 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been formed, based on the Debian package base, aimed at ensuring anonymous network access. Anonymous access in Tails is provided by the Tor system. All connections, except for traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by the packet filter by default. To store user data in save mode between sessions, encryption is used. An ISO image is prepared for download, capable of operating in Live mode, with a size of 1.1 GB.
The new release enhances the reliability of automatic updates installation: it implements automatic integrity recovery of the filesystem used for installing updates, and also adds support for automatic resumption of the process in case of a failure during update downloads. Versions of Tor Browser 10.0.14, Thunderbird 78.8.0, Tor 0.4.5.7, and GRUB 2.04-16 have been updated. Firmware packages have been updated and support for Intel, Broadcom, and Cypress wireless chips has improved. Error handling has been enhanced when running the insecure browser and when there is no connection to the local network.
At the same time, a new version of the Tor Browser 10.0.14, focused on ensuring anonymity, security, and privacy, has been released. The release is synchronized with the Firefox 78.9.0 ESR code base, which resolves 8 vulnerabilities. Versions of NoScript 11.2.3 and Tor 0.4.5.7 have been updated.
