In accordance with the previously proposed process for changing the governance of the SPO Fund, Geoffrey Knauth, the president of the SPO Fund, announced the inclusion of a new voting member in the board of directors who will represent staff opinions and who was elected by the regular employees of the SPO Fund. The board now includes system administrator Ian Kelling.
At the same time, it was announced that lawyer Kat Walsh, who participated in the creation of the Creative Commons 4.0 license, served on the board of trustees of Wikimedia Foundation, and was part of the managing board of Xiph.org Foundation, is stepping down from the SPO Fund's board of directors. Kat emphasized that her departure should not be seen as a rejection of free software ideals. This decision resulted from a long and difficult realization that the role she played in the organization is no longer the best way to promote free software ideas in the world. Kat believes that changes are necessary for the SPO Fund to address existing issues, but she is not the person who can implement those changes.
Additionally, it is worth noting that the number of signatories supporting Stallman significantly exceeded the number signing against him — 3,693 signed in favor of Stallman, while 2,811 signed against.
