The lightweight window manager IceWM 2.3 has been released. IceWM provides full control via keyboard shortcuts, support for virtual desktops, taskbars, and application menus. The window manager can be configured through a fairly simple configuration file, with the possibility of using themes. Built-in applets are available for monitoring CPU, memory, and traffic. Several third-party GUIs for configuration, desktop implementations, and menu editors are being developed separately. The code is written in C++ and distributed under the GPLv2 license.
In the new release:
- The NetStatusShowOnlyRunning setting has been added to show only active network interfaces in the panel.
- The TaskBarTaskGrouping setting has been added to group similar applications and display them with one button on the panel.
- The ability to switch has been implemented virtual desktops through the menu with the list of windows and through the Alt+Tab combination in the QuickSwitch window.
- QuickSwitch now supports mouse wheel, arrow keys, Home, End, Delete, and Enter keys, as well as the numbers '1-9' for navigating desktops and open windows.
- Efforts have been made to reduce system calls involved in updating network status or working with files in the filereader class.
- The process for displaying tooltips has been optimized, which now only updates when the tooltip window is in view.
- An option has been added to the icehelp menu to open the current document in a browser.
- Support for additional mouse buttons (up to 9 buttons) has been added.
- Support for colored cursors has been added.
