Microsoft has long been developing alternatives to traditional PCs. And now the next step has been taken. Recently, the beta version of Windows Virtual Desktop was presented, which is expected to lead to the demise of regular computers. What's the essence? Essentially, it's a sort of response to Chrome OS, where the user only has a browser and web services. Windows Virtual Desktop works differently. The system virtualizes […]
The marathon of launching Windows 10 on various devices continues. This time, enthusiast Bas Timmer from the Netherlands, known by the nickname NTAuthority, managed to run the desktop OS on the OnePlus 6T smartphone. Naturally, this concerns the edition for ARM processors. He described his developments on Twitter, publishing brief messages with photos and videos. He noted that the system managed to […]
Hello everyone! We continue to launch new streams for the courses you already love, and we are excited to announce that a new cohort for the "Linux Administrator" course will start at the end of April. A new publication will be dedicated to this event. The original material can be found here. Virtual file systems act as a kind of magical abstraction, […]
In this post, we will discuss how the cybergroup OceanLotus (APT32 and APT-C-00) recently exploited one of the publicly available exploits for CVE-2017-11882, a memory corruption vulnerability in Microsoft Office, and how the group's malware ensures persistence in compromised systems without leaving traces. We will further describe how since the beginning of 2019, the group has been using self-extracting archives to execute code. OceanLotus specializes in cyber espionage, prioritizing […]
Carbon nanotubes have found yet another application. A few days ago, a paper was published in Nature Scientific Reports that for the first time discusses the possibility of using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) in magnetic recording on hard drives. These are various complex CNT structures in the form of “matryoshkas,” “bundles,” and other configurations. The task in all cases comes down to one—filling […]
Innovations have become commonplace. And it's not about modern “innovations” like ray tracing technology in Nvidia's RTX graphics cards or the 50x zoom in Huawei's new smartphone. These things are more useful to marketers than to users. We're talking about real innovations that have fundamentally changed our approach and outlook on life. For the past 500 years, especially […]
Video communication is the primary means of interaction between teachers and students on the Vimbox platform. We long ago abandoned Skype, tried several third-party solutions, and ultimately settled on the WebRTC - Janus-gateway combination. For a while, everything was satisfactory, but some negative aspects continued to emerge. As a result, a separate video direction was created. I asked Kirill Rogovoy, the head of […]
A task has come in to set up IP address distribution for subscribers. Task conditions: No separate server for authorization will be provided—you’ll manage just fine 😉 Subscribers must receive network settings via DHCP. The network is heterogeneous, including PON equipment, regular switches with Option 82 configured, and WiFi bases with access points. If none of the IP assignment conditions are met— […]
It all started with a giveaway... a hive giveaway among beekeepers in exchange for a fun story about why they needed it. Here, the little thoughts in my head took over, and quickly crafted a message that I needed this hive not for bees, but to set up a monitoring server 😉 Then the imagination pictured Raspberry blades instead of frames […]
One of the most conservative human activities is beekeeping! Since the invention of the frame hive and honey extractor about 200 years ago, progress in this area has been minimal. This has manifested in the electrification of certain honey extraction processes and the use of winter heating for hives. Meanwhile, the bee population worldwide is declining significantly due to climate change and the widespread use of chemicals in […]
Hello! My name is Dmitry Pavlov, I work at GridGain, and I am a committer and member of the PMC in Apache Ignite and a contributor to Apache Training. Recently, I gave a talk about the work of a committer at Sberbank's open-source meetup. With the growth of the open-source community, many have increasingly begun to ask questions: how to become a committer, what tasks to take on, and […]
According to online sources, Google has initiated the process of shutting down its social network, which involves deleting all user accounts. This means the developer has abandoned attempts to compete with Facebook, Twitter, and others. The Google+ social network had a relatively low popularity among users. There are also reports of several major data breaches resulting in information about […]
