On July 12, the release of version 8.1 "De dag van de bitterkoekjespudding" of the GNU nano text editor was announced. Change log: the idiom nano filename:linenumber is only understood when using the --colonparsing option (or set colonparsing); modern keybindings (with the --modernbindings or -/ option) are not activated if the name of the nano executable starts with 'e', as this contradicts the alternative Debian system; a new assignable […
The Khronos consortium, which develops graphic standards, has recognized the full compatibility of the open driver Panthor with the OpenGL ES 3.1 specification. The driver successfully passed all tests from the CTS (Khronos Conformance Test Suite) and has been included in the list of certified drivers. Certification was completed for the Mali G610 GPU. The verification was performed on the Rock5b board (SoC RK3588) in a Wayland-based environment.
After two months of development, Linus Torvalds has released kernel Linux 6.10. Notable changes include: the ntsync driver with synchronization primitives for Windows NT, DRM Panic components to implement a 'blue screen of death' equivalent, the termination of support for old Alpha CPUs, the ability to verify integrity in FUSE-based file systems, access restriction to ioctl through the Landlock mechanism, and a subsystem for profiling operations.
An experimental release of the open implementation of the Win32 API — Wine 9.13 — has been published. Since the release of 9.12, 22 bug reports have been closed and 336 changes have been made. Key changes include: support for loading ODBC drivers compiled for Windows into databases has been added. Work continues to place data structures from the user32 library in shared memory. The rewriting of the engine used in the CMD.EXE command interpreter has also continued.
The lineup of AMD hybrid processors designed for use in the desktop platform Socket AM5 includes a total of four models. We have previously provided detailed information about the two higher-end models: the eight-core Ryzen 7 8700G with Radeon 780M graphics and the six-core Ryzen 5 8600G with Radeon 760M graphics. These hybrid processors are based on Zen 4 cores […]
The rapid development of neural networks has long raised concerns among experts regarding privacy when interacting with such algorithms. This week, there was further confirmation that these concerns are not unfounded. A user on the social media platform X, Kevin Bankster, pointed out that Google’s Gemini neural network automatically scans PDF files stored in Google Drive without obtaining […]
The release of the spam filtering system Rspamd 3.9 has taken place, offering tools to evaluate messages based on various criteria, including rules, statistical methods, and blacklists, which are used to generate the final weight of messages for determining blocking decisions. Rspamd supports almost all the features implemented in SpamAssassin and includes several capabilities that allow for filtering mail at an average rate of 10 […]
The release of the package manager Pacman 7.0, used in the Arch Linux distribution, is now available. Key changes include: A new parameter DownloadUser added to the configuration, allowing privilege dropping during file download operations and saving the downloaded files in a temporary directory owned by the user specified in the directive. Isolation mechanisms in systems based on the Linux kernel prevent the process performing downloads from writing to […]
gpu.cpp is a lightweight portable library for computations on graphic coprocessors. It requires only a C++ compiler that supports the C++17 standard (developers strangely insist on using clang) and the library itself. It is claimed to work on any devices that support Vulkan, Metal, or DirectX. The developers highlight the advantages of the library as follows: compilation speed, claimed to be less than 5 seconds on modern PCs; simplicity of the API; minimal […]
The release of PCSX2 version 2.0 has taken place. PCSX2 is a cross-platform emulator for PlayStation 2, available on Linux, macOS, chromeOS (x64), and Windows. The emulator has been in development since 2002. Notable innovations include a new graphical interface based on Qt6; integration with RetroAchievements; native support for DualShock 4 and DualSense gamepads; a prototype Big Picture mode; the elimination of the plugin system; and native support for Mac on Apple Silicon; […]
The release of the Qubes 4.2.2 operating system is now available, implementing the idea of using a hypervisor for strict isolation of applications and OS components (each class of applications and system services runs in separate virtual machines). A system with 16 GB of RAM (minimum — 6 GB) and a 64-bit Intel or AMD CPU with support for VT-x with EPT/AMD-v with RVI is recommended for operation; […]
Despite all the efforts of the developers, members of the War Thunder community continue to dig into secret documents and occasionally publish them to prove their point. This time, documentation related to the Russian tanks T-90M, T-80BVM, and T-90C has surfaced online. All three vehicles are in service with the Russian army, and their digital counterparts are present in War Thunder. […]
