The developers of the LLVM project have approved the transition to a new version numbering scheme. Similar to the GCC and GDB projects, the zero release ('N.0') in each new branch will be used during development, while the first stable version will carry the number 'N.1'. This change will separate builds based on the under-development branch (mainline) from those of the final branch […]

Researchers from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (USA) have introduced a new type of Mayhem attack that utilizes a bit-flipping technique in dynamic RAM, known as Rowhammer, to alter the values of variables in the stack, which serve as flags for determining the success of authentication and passing security checks. Practical examples of this attack's application have been demonstrated to bypass authentication in SUDO, OpenSSH, and MySQL, […]
A release of the specialized distribution Tails 5.21 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been formed, based on the Debian package base and designed for anonymous internet access. Tails ensures anonymous access through the Tor network. All connections, except for traffic routed through Tor, are by default blocked by a packet filter. User data storage in persistent mode across sessions is protected by encryption. […]

Researchers from SEC Consult have published a new spoofing technique caused by discrepancies in adherence to specifications across various implementations of the SMTP protocol. The proposed attack technique allows a single message to be split into several different messages when transmitted from one SMTP server to another, interpreting the sequence for dividing messages sent through a single connection differently. This method can be used to send fake […]
