March 1st marks the birthday of the personal computer. Xerox Alto

The occurrence of the word 'first' in the article is overwhelming. The first program 'Hello, World', the first game MUD, the first shooter, the first deathmatch, the first graphical user interface, the first 'desktop', the first Ethernet, the first three-button mouse, the first ball mouse, the first optical mouse, the first full-page-sized monitor, the first multiplayer game… the first personal computer. The year is 1973 in Palo Alto, at the legendary R&D lab […]

Alan Kay: How I Would Teach Computer Science 101

Posted on

'One of the reasons to actually attend university is to move beyond simple vocational training and instead grasp deeper ideas.' Let's ponder this question a bit. A few years ago, computer science departments invited me to give lectures at several universities. Almost by chance, I asked my first audience, which consisted of seniors, […]

Service mesh, 'data plane' vs. 'control plane'

Posted on

Hello, Habr! I present to you a translation of the article 'Service mesh data plane vs control plane' by Matt Klein. This time, I 'felt compelled and translated' the description of both components of the service mesh, data plane, and control plane. I found this explanation to be the most clear and interesting, and, most importantly, leading to the understanding of 'Is it really necessary?'. Since the idea of a 'Service Mesh […]

When this new mode is activated, pages from different sites will always be placed in the memory of different processes, each applying its own sandbox. The separation by processes will be done not by tabs, but by […]

My fourth day with Haiku: issues with installation and loading

Posted on

TL;DR: after a few days of experimenting with Haiku, I decided to install it on a separate SSD. However, it turned out to be more complex than expected. Intensive work is ongoing to check Haiku's booting process. Three days ago, I learned about Haiku, an unexpectedly good operating system for PCs. Now it's the fourth day, and I want to do more 'real work' with this system, but the partition […]

What does it take for an IT company to succeed in 2019? Speakers at conferences and meetups use a lot of loud and not always understandable terms for regular people. The fight for deployment time, microservices, moving away from monoliths, DevOps transformation, and so much more. Stripping away the verbal embellishments and speaking plainly, it all boils down to a simple thesis: create a quality product, and […]
