A year and a half ago, while reading about the vulnerabilities Meltdown and Spectre, I caught myself not fully understanding the difference between the abbreviations i.e. and e.g. Contextually, they seem clear, but later it feels like not entirely right. As a result, I created a small cheat sheet specifically for these abbreviations to avoid confusion. […]
Hello. There is a network of 5,000 clients. Recently, a rather unpleasant moment occurred — in the center of the network, we have a Brocade RX8 and it started sending a lot of unknown-unicast packets. Since the network is divided into VLANs, this is partially not a problem, BUT there are special VLANs for white addresses, etc., and they are stretched over […]
From September 4 to 6, a three-day Slyerm DevOps event will take place in St. Petersburg at the Selectel conference hall. We designed the program based on the idea that theoretical writings on DevOps, like manuals for tools, can be read independently. What’s interesting is experience and practice: explanations of how to do things right and wrong, and stories about how we do it. In every company, every administrator or […]
The Document Foundation has released version 6.3 of the LibreOffice office suite. In particular, […]
Details have emerged about a new attack on websites using a frontend-backend model, such as those operating via content delivery networks, load balancers, or proxies. The attack allows for the injection of content into other requests processed in the same thread between the frontend and backend by sending specific requests. The proposed method has successfully been applied to execute an attack that intercepts user authentication parameters for the PayPal service, which has rewarded researchers […]

The Document Foundation has announced the release of LibreOffice 6.3. Writer now allows background colors for table cells to be set from the Table toolbar. Indexes/table of contents can now be undone, and the update does not clear the undo history. Improved copying of tables from Calc to existing Writer tables: only visible cells in Calc are copied and pasted. The page background can now be set […]
Last year, I spent the last couple of months preparing for an internship interview at Google (Google Internship). Everything went well: I got both the job and great experience. Now, two months after the internship, I want to share the document I used for interview preparation. For me, it was something like a cheat sheet before an exam. However, the process […]
The essence of the story about the most popular package manager for Kubernetes could be illustrated with emojis: a box for Helm (it's the most fitting representation from the latest Emoji release); a lock for security; and a person for problem-solving. In reality, things will be a bit more complicated, and the narrative is full of technical details on how to make Helm secure. […]
There are less than twenty-four hours left until the launch of the new AMD EPYC™ Rome processors. In this article, we decided to recall the beginnings of the rivalry between the two largest CPU manufacturers. The first commercially available 8-bit processor in the world was the Intel® i8008, released in 1972. The processor had a clock speed of 200 kHz and was manufactured using a 10 µm (10000 nm) technology. […]
TL;DR: Haiku could become a fantastic desktop operating system with open source code. I truly want this, but there's still a lot of work to be done. I've been exploring Haiku for two days now, a surprisingly good operating system. It's the third day, and I'm enjoying this OS so much that I constantly think about how to make it a daily operating system. In terms of […]
