The first unofficial firmware of the LineageOS platform has been released for the Nintendo Switch console, allowing the use of an Android environment on the console instead of the stock FreeBSD-based environment. The firmware is based on LineageOS 15.1 (Android 8.1) builds for NVIDIA Shield TV devices, which, like the Nintendo Switch, are based on the NVIDIA Tegra X1 SoC. Portable mode operation is supported (output to the built-in […]
In a recent update (2.3-3ubuntu9.4) in Ubuntu 18.04, the normal operation of the DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support) system, used for building third-party kernel modules after a Linux kernel update, has been disrupted. A sign of the problem is the message output "\/usr\/sbin\/dkms: line### find_module: command not found" during manual module installation, or suspiciously differing sizes of initrd.*.dkms and the newly created initrd (this can be checked by users of unattended-upgrade). […]

The InterSystems IRIS database management system supports interesting structures for data storage — globals. Essentially, these are multi-level keys with various additional perks such as transactions, fast functions for traversing data trees, locks, and its own language, ObjectScript. More about globals in the article series "Globals — the swords and sorcery for data storage": Trees. Part 1 Trees. Part 2 Sparse arrays. Part […]
Security researchers from Armis have revealed information about 11 vulnerabilities (PDF) in the TCP/IP stack IPnet, used in the VxWorks operating system. The vulnerabilities have been assigned the code name "URGENT/11." These vulnerabilities can be exploited remotely by sending specially crafted network packets, and for certain issues, an attack may be possible even when accessed through firewalls and NAT (for example, if the attacker […]
The Linux kernel 5.3 includes changes that add extra protection for ioctl calls related to the floppy driver, which has been marked as abandoned, indicating that testing will cease. The driver is considered outdated, as it is hard to find functioning hardware for testing — all modern external drives typically use USB interfaces. Meanwhile, […]
1. Learn to Google Being a programmer means learning how to find answers to your questions. By mastering the art of effective Googling, you will save a lot of time spent on development. 2. Promise less, but deliver more than promised It's better to inform your team that a task will take three weeks and complete it in two, rather than the other way around. By following this principle, you will build trust […]
In the search for ways to enhance the efficiency of energy sector enterprises and other industrial facilities that use equipment burning fossil fuels (steam boilers, hot water boilers, technological furnaces, etc.), the question of utilizing the potential of flue gases is not typically prioritized. Meanwhile, relying on existing calculation standards developed decades ago and established benchmarks for key performance indicators […]
