Why is air support control necessary for data centers?

Posted on

Everything in a person should be excellent, and everything in a modern data center should operate like a Swiss watch. No component of the complex architecture of a data center's engineering systems should be left unattended by the operations team. These considerations guided us at the Linxdatacenter facility in St. Petersburg as we prepared for Uptime Management & Operations certification in 2018, ensuring all systems […]

We use mcrouter for horizontal scaling of memcached

Developing high-load projects in any language requires a special approach and the use of specific tools, but when it comes to PHP applications, the situation can escalate to the point where one has to develop, for example, a custom application server. This note will address the familiar pain of distributed session storage and data caching in memcached, and how […]

RoadRunner: PHP is not made to die, or Golang rushes to the rescue

Posted on

Hello, Habr! At Badoo, we are actively working on PHP performance, as we have a large system built on this language and performance is a matter of cost savings. Over ten years ago, we created PHP-FPM, which initially started as a set of patches for PHP but later became part of the official distribution. In recent years, PHP has significantly […]

Minimum installation of CentOS/Fedora/RedHat

Posted on

I have no doubt that noble lords — Linux administrators — strive to minimize the number of packages installed on the server. This is more cost-effective, safer, and instills a sense of complete control and understanding of the processes at hand for the administrator. Therefore, the typical scenario for the initial installation of the operating system involves choosing a minimal variant, which is then filled with necessary packages. However, the minimal option proposed by the CentOS installer […]

Fault-tolerant PostgreSQL cluster + Patroni. Implementation experience.

Posted on

In this article, I will explain how we approached the issue of PostgreSQL fault tolerance, why it became important for us, and what we ultimately achieved. We operate a high-load service: 2.5 million users worldwide, with over 50,000 active users each day. Our servers are hosted on Amazon in a single region in Ireland, with more than 100 different servers in operation at any time, nearly half of which are […]
