ExtremeSwitching V300 - a new line of port expanders for enterprise networks with thin access

ExtremeSwitching V300 is a new line of port extenders from Extreme Networks based on the IEEE 802.1BR protocol. We already got acquainted with this technology in more detail in our article. "Extreme Extended Edge" or IEEE 802.1BR Switching. The line is represented by five fanless eight-port models with a wide range of options for possible connection, power supply, installation in temperature and noise sensitive rooms, which makes it possible to satisfy a fairly wide range of project requirements.

All models, except for eight access ports, have two more uplink ports. For the V300-8P-2T-W model, these are 2 gigabit copper interfaces, for all others it is SFP +. A feature of the V300-8P-2T-W is that it is the only model from the entire line that is powered by PoE from an upstream switch, neither built-in nor a connector for connecting an external power supply is provided. The absence of the need to lay power lines will, in this case, save significant funds and time for the implementation of the project.

V300-8P-2T-W, in addition to being powered by PoE, can also provide power according to the PoE + standard with a budget of up to 105W, the remaining two models with PoE support can provide up to 180W and 160W of the budget, respectively

Models V300HT have IP42 protection class and extended operating temperature range -40…+70С, connectors for connecting two power supplies, and the ability to mount on a DIN rail. This makes it possible to install and use devices in places with increased operational requirements, such as transport, industrial production, logistics centers or wholesalers and retailers…

ExtremeSwitching V300 switches work on the “Plug and Play” principle, it is enough to turn off the network interfaces and turn on the power, immediately after that the V300 loads the configuration stored on the “Control Bridge” and the network starts working. One Control Bridge is enough, but if redundancy is required, two Control Bridges are used with the MLAG setting as shown in the diagrams above.

Of the other key features when building a network using ExtremeSwitching V300, we highlight:

  • Silent operation
  • Operation in an extended temperature range
  • Supported "Control Bridge" - X690, X590, X670-G2, X465
  • Support for Fabric Attach technology with dynamic configuration and provisioning of services
  • EXOS functionality in an inexpensive and compact form factor
  • The ability to manage and control from the cloud platform "ExtremeCloud IQ"
  • Single point of configuration, lower operating costs
  • Support PoE pass through with 105W budget
