Intel Xeon E-2200. Server cores, budget

After big update of Intel Xeon W for workstations of workaholics saw the light of the new Xeon E - processors for entry-level servers. Compared to its predecessors, the number of cores has increased, while the price has remained at the same level - that is, in terms of the Xeon E core, the price has also fallen.

Getting to know the Xeon E may surprise those who associated the Intel Xeon with a price tag lavishly decorated with zeros. Yes, this is exactly the case in the top models, but there are others, originating from the Xeon E3 and with each new generation offering more performance for their price. Based on the table below, the cost of the Xeon E core is $50-$80, which is quite a reasonable price so as not to burden the budget of an entry-level server. Needless to say, such servers are often required for a variety of tasks.

In total, there are more than 20 models in the update package, on ARK website you can check out the whole list in every detail. Here we will give a cut along the ruler from top to bottom according to our standard template.

Intel Xeon E-2200 processors have from 4 to 8 cores (from 4 to 16 threads), cache memory from 8 to 16 MB, the operating frequency of top models reaches 5 GHz. Models with the G index are equipped with an Intel UHD Graphics P630 graphics core, options are available without graphics - they are slightly cheaper. TDP E-2200 is 70-100 W, which is quite a bit by server standards; the line includes processors for embedded systems, including 8-core ones, for example, E-2278GEL with a base frequency of 2 GHz and a TDP of 35W. The processors support 2-channel DDR4-2666 memory up to 128 GB.

So, the launch of the Xeon E-2200 family marks the appearance on the market of low-cost 8-core single-socket servers on the Intel platform soon - I think for someone a 30% increase in cores per node will be very useful. The new models are now commercially available, so it won't take long for the server to arrive.
