This Thursday, an event happened that stirred up the entire IT community: a mask show in the Nginx office. The founder of Nginx, Igor Sysoev, can be called one of the most talented and valuable people in Russia, and if this happened to him, this could happen to any of us.
- All the rascals
- Leave the country
- Protect Nginx
- Punish the guilty
- Find the perpetrators and punish
- Ask the authorities to resolve the situation
Let's go through each of the options.
All the rascals
A fairly common reaction, a typical reaction of a serf, on which nothing depends. You can whine your friends, they whine you, you will feel relief together, but the situation will not change. In view of the history of our country, this is a fairly common reaction, serfdom was abolished, but the serfs remained. They console themselves with the fact that critics are needed, but in fact, with the help of criticism, they justify their own laziness. Those who criticize should not do anything, and this is another reason for the popularity of this position.
Leave the country
If it's bad here, why not move to another place? In the end, this was done by our ancestors, who in the fifth century began to be pressed by the Germanic tribes in Europe - they simply went east. This position will help improve the situation for the individual, but will not help improve the situation for society. In addition, from my own experience (and I lived for about 2 years in 3 different countries, Cyprus, Cambodia and the USA), I can say that there are often no less injustices abroad, plus a language barrier, ignorance of laws and culture, the absence of at least some -Something connections and the ability to protect themselves. From what they fled, they got it, there are scoundrels everywhere. Let us recall Polonsky, who was stripped in Cambodia, or Tinkov, who was squeezed out of the American timber market. Recall the default of Laiki Bank Bank in Cyprus, when people were told that their deposits simply burned out. Another point is the comfort of life. I like to communicate with my Russian friends, from school and from the institute. I like the very high educational level of people in Russia, it's really not that common in the world.
I’ll tell you in my own countries: in the USA, disgusting food, social programs and infrastructure, you can get a lot and buy yourself a chic house, but outside it there will be outcasts with firearms, wheelchair invalids who have no money for treatment (still, I’m here they somehow pulled out a tooth for $1200) and they beg for alms (there are many times more of them than in Russia), you understand that you can always be in their place. Cyprus is much better with social services, with order, but this is a small island, rather boring after one season. Cambodia combines the worst of the USA and Cyprus, so no food, social security and public order, and it's very boring there, after one season you want to go somewhere else. I am sure there are really good countries, but you need to look for them, and something will always be revealed. And I like living in Russia, I really feel comfortable like that, if it were not for the arbitrariness of individuals, which we want to correct. Let's move on to other reactions.
Protect Nginx
The position of an adult responsible person. Now they have come for them - we have protected, tomorrow they will come for us - they will protect us. You can create something like a collective defense society, if there is arbitrariness, then everyone joins in and fights off their own. Nginx is a very famous project and many have harnessed it, no one will harness for an ordinary developer if you do not create a community and gain practice. We need coordinators, we need groups/chats in popular social networks/messengers. We need people who will promptly cover events (and receive karma and honor for this). We need lawyers who promptly leave in such cases, know what to do (and get potential clients, no one says that they should work for free). Businesses need to be instructed on what to do in such situations, like fire drills, since ordering a mask show in Russia is as easy as shelling pears and, according to unverified reports, even a monthly salary of one developer is enough for such an action. Corruption, both low and high, and the use of the administrative is a real risk, and we, as a society, must develop protective measures, what can be done in the event of such an attack and how to minimize losses. All developed countries have gone through this stage, and I would like us to spend not 50 years on this, but meet it in 10 years. It would be great if the comments start discussing ways to protect, what can be done and how to act more effectively in such situations.
Punish the guilty
A very unpopular reaction in our humane society, and perhaps the main reason for the dominance of various kinds of villains. At one time, a revolution took place in military affairs, when the armies began not only to drive the enemy away from their land, but to finally defeat them. If you simply drive away the rascal, he will come again. And if you punish, firstly, prevent such behavior from this particular comrade, and secondly, create a precedent that will reduce the overall criminal activity, since the villains will be afraid of a fair punishment. This is the most difficult option, but in the long run it turns out to be much easier than defending and being afraid all your life. What we can do? Condemnation on the Internet, the decline of the HR brand, the leak of the media account, complaints to all instances, the court, the higher court, the European court, a public boycott? Some of this is more effective, some less, you need to develop a list of effective methods, what can society do in general?
Find the perpetrators and punish
There were many accusations in the comments, forgive Mamut, but I am embarrassed that the amount of the claim is too small, and Mamut's fortune is too large to even make one call on this matter. In general, there are people who believe that Putin is to blame for all the country's troubles. Or Stalin, Yeltsin, Gorbachev, different people at different times. I believe that very specific people are to blame in every situation, and if we don’t find them and blame someone else, say their superiors or subordinates, the situation will not be resolved and the villains will continue to create chaos. It is important not just to punish, but to punish the right people, otherwise there is no point in punishing.
Regarding this situation, there are violations at least on the part of the investigation. In a ruling from
UPD: Ask the authorities to resolve the situation
