KTT in server solutions - what does it look like?

Approximately like this. This is part of the fans that turned out to be redundant and were dismantled from twenty servers in a test rack located in the DataPro data center. Under the cut is traffic. Illustrated description of our cooling system. And an unexpected offer for very economical, but a little fearless owners of server hardware.

The cooling system for server equipment based on loop heat pipes is considered as an alternative to a liquid system. Comparable in efficiency, it is cheaper to implement and operate. At the same time, even in theory, it does not allow liquid leakage inside expensive server equipment.

Last year, our first experimental rack was installed in the DataPro data center. It consists of forty identical Supermicro servers. The first twenty of them with a standard cooling system, the second twenty - with a modified one. The purpose of the experiment is to test the applicability of our cooling system in a real data center, in a real rack, in real servers.

Sorry for the quality of some of the photos. Then they didn’t bother much, but now there is no way to reshoot the process. Also, many photos are vertical. Like the hero of this post, a server rack.

At the top of the rack are the usual servers. Below is a heat exchange bus with clamping devices for unusual, (almost) fanless servers. Fans were left only for blowing memory. Heat is transferred from the processors to the heat exchanger using our loop heat pipes. And from the heat exchanger, the heat goes somewhere else through the liquid bus.

It may be a street adiabatic. These are placed on the roofs of buildings. Or near buildings.

Or maybe the heating system. Or an eco-farm for growing vegetables. Or a warm outdoor pool. Or some other figment of your imagination. Requiring a coolant temperature of 40-60°C.

The rack assembly looks like this.

View of thermal interfaces. No need to be scared, this is only the first revision.

Even more severe look. Yes, it's Made In Russia. 🙂

The second revision will look noticeably less severe. Maybe even a little cute.

We are looking for economical and courageous

Today we have come close to the task of assembling a new rack. Based on the second revision of our server cooling system. It will also be located in the DataPro data center. But what is required for this? Neither more nor less - forty of the same type of hot servers.

We are ready to purchase some hot, though not very new servers for our needs. But before that, it’s a sin not to take an interest in the Habra community. Perhaps someone wants to participate with their iron in our experiment?

In this case, we will have a chance to work with something much more recent than we will acquire on our own. And, much more valuable, this something will work under real, not synthetic, load.

In exchange, we offer free integration of our cooling system into your server rack. The approximate market value of such an "upgrade" is about 1,5 million rubles. From our partners, DataPro company - a discount for placing such a modified rack in their data center. The size of the discount will be discussed additionally with the interested party.

We have the ability to make modifications to the server hardware while maintaining the warranty. We already have partnership agreements with Lenovo, IBM and DELL and we are working on expanding this list.

I will be glad to see all the brave in a personal web self here on habré or by any contact specified in my profile. And for those who are interested in the topic of cooling (including server) computer equipment, I remind you about our social networks VK и Instagram. Some amount of educational video content is expected to appear in them soon. Don't let yourself miss out.
