What to build Wi-Fi 6 infrastructure on?

In our last In the article we talked about the features of the new Wi-Fi 6 standard (802.11ax). Enough time has passed since then and the standard as a whole has already been approved, manufacturers are producing equipment, and the WiFi Alliance is actively involved in its certification. In the new year, many will have new projects to upgrade or build wireless infrastructure from scratch, so the issue of existing supply from manufacturers may be more relevant than ever. Extreme Networks offers a wide portfolio of Wi-Fi 6 access points, from which everyone can choose the most suitable option for their project.

The entire Access Points line is divided into three series - 300/400/500, and runs on the WiNG 7 operating system or the Cloud platform “ExtremeCloud IQ” (Hive OS).

In the AP name, suffixes indicate the order in which the antennas are installed or whether they belong to the “cloud” platform:

"I" - internal antennas
"and" - external antennas
"vs" —cloud
"cx" — cloud, external antennas

Also all points support WPA3 Security.

500 series dots

High-performance points with two radio interfaces and a 4x4:4 antenna circuit are designed for use in projects with a high subscriber density and at the same time high performance (retail, stadiums, medical and educational institutions, etc.). With the ability to install AR both indoors and outdoors. “Outdoor” points have a degree of protection IP67 and an extended operating temperature range.

300 series dots

The 300 dot series is a cost effective AP option. Just like the 500th point, it is produced with 2 radio interfaces, but at the same time it has a 2x2:2 antenna circuit. Otherwise, the points also have an internal or external design, the ability to use both radio interfaces in the 5Ghz range, and internal/external antennas. 300 series APs can be powered by standard PoE 802.3af (up to 15W). At the same time, AP310 can act as PSE (Power Source Equipment) PoE through the second port if the power is supplied according to the 802.3at standard (up to 30W).

400 series dots

A distinctive feature of these points is the presence of a dedicated third radio interface. Moreover, this interface is a full-fledged 802.11 radio, defined for operation by a sensor, and not just a BLE radio module. The antenna circuit looks like this - 4x4 5Ghz radio, 2x2 2.4 radio and 1x1 or 2x2 sensor radio. The sensor provides security and IPS support, allowing other radios to focus solely on handling client connections.
