Hello! We are called
Our acquaintance with
Over time, they began to involve us in consulting users, and later - in writing methodological recommendations and instructions for solving certain problems. In parallel, we constantly tried to expand our knowledge of the system, making the most of the training materials available to partners of Dassault Systèmes. So, Armen delved into work with assemblies, parameters and catalogs, and I managed to study the nuances of laying pipelines and arranging equipment using
At some point, we were offered to work with students, asking them to teach them a course on CATIA. We thought, why not. Working with students was not new to me - before that, I had been teaching higher mathematics for 1-2 courses for many years, and Armen, being a graduate student, had experience teaching at the Department of Marine Engines.
Basically, our students are masters, in extreme cases - senior bachelors of shipbuilding specialties, there are groups of evening-correspondence faculty. Working with such adults is much easier than with freshmen, so there are no difficulties in relationships or mutual understanding.
Those whom we train now already perfectly understand why they study and what they need from studying at the university. Often students are already working in design offices and / or in production, and in such cases our communication with them becomes interesting. The guys tell us what aspects of working in CATIA are most useful to them, and in the case of using another CAD at the workplace, we can get a fairly detailed comparative analysis of the functionality of CATIA and third-party CAD.
At the same time, I would like to note that students very aptly and accurately notice the advantages and disadvantages of using various systems.
We build training in the following way. At the first meeting, we talk about the Dassault Systèmes information environment, the product life cycle and warn that we will get acquainted with only a small part of it - 3D modeling. Then, over five sessions, we talk about the basic CATIA course, from working in a sketcher to creating a drawing based on a XNUMXD model. Throughout the course, students complete practical tasks on the current topic, and the final chord of learning becomes an individual course project, the meaning of which is to model an object (part or assembly) and tell about it on the pages of your work, acting according to one of the following scenarios.
For those who already have a diploma topic, we offer to help with the visual part or prepare a 3D model for further analysis (for example, a hull contour model for analyzing the propulsion of a designed vessel).
For students who have not yet decided on a graduation project, we advise you to think about a hobby and visualize something from it - in our opinion, a good way to motivate a student to apply all the knowledge and skills acquired during the semester.
Those who still can’t come up with anything, we send them to video hosting sites known to everyone to look for interesting step-by-step instructions and try to repeat the ones they like. With this approach to the choice of topics for term papers at the session, we often do not so much examine students as the guys themselves share their impressions, throw us various questions about all sorts of nuances of working in CATIA, start discussions about the best version of this or that model.
As a result, we get from the stream about a hundred chic and quite diverse works devoted to the most diverse and sometimes even unexpected topics. Here are just a few of the most memorable ones.
Krichman Mikhail designed the ship's hull at SOLIDWORKS. Decided to repeat in CATIA.
Mistakhov Ildan I managed to independently achieve quite smooth contours of the hull.
Shilkina Marina set the task of constructing a theoretical drawing of the ship's hull, having a table of coordinates as the initial data.
Pavlovsky Mikhail depicted his version of the spaceship.
Kucherenko Irina chose the classic work - the project of an internal combustion engine:
Danil Albaev reproduced a chessboard with pieces placed on it:
Elizabeth Ovsyannikova designed the artwork for the label and rendering of the plastic bottle model.
Ilya Strukov designed the assembly of the product, taking live dimensions from real parts.
Any educational process requires the availability of methodological materials. However, we are faced with an almost complete lack of information on working in CATIA V5 in Russian. Along with this, we have accumulated some of our own notes and sketches about the basics of working with Dassault Systèmes products.
Thus the idea arose to create
In addition, faced with the need to pass Dassault Systèmes partner certification every year, we thought about the possibility of something similar for our students. So we went to
Passing such a certification provides students with several advantages at once. Firstly, each student who passes the exam receives not just a grade in the statement and in the test, but a document from the CAD developer, which confirms the knowledge just received. Secondly, this document is a digital certificate with the official signature of Dassault Systèmes and can be placed as a link in a resume on the relevant sites in Russia and the world.
In our opinion, the basic course of work in a design system of such a level as
We always tell the guys that even if they do not work in CATIA V5 in the future, the knowledge and skills gained from us will help them better understand the principles of modern design and product life cycle management, will allow them to take a broader look at the tasks set for them, and in a global sense, to become more valuable engineering staff, as they will be better prepared for the realities of industry 4.0.
We have many plans. We hope to implement the idea of certifying students within the walls of Korabelka.
In addition, starting from the new academic year, we expect to teach in the environment
I'm sure it won't be easy, but interesting. Of course, we don't forget about our VK group, we plan to continue developing it, filling it with content dedicated to both CATIA V5 and 3DEXPERIENCE.
We look forward to sharing our progress with you in the next article!
