Appearance

The model is an inexpensive basic solution for organizing IP-telephony in the office, but this does not mean that the manufacturer has saved on its equipment and capabilities.

The design of the device can be called a little outdated, but it's not. It's classic, and classics, as you know, never get old!

It features large and comfortable number keys that are easy to find by touch. Plus, to the right of the numeric keypad there are keys for quick access to popular functions.

To display the caller ID and menu commands, the Snom D120 has a high-contrast backlit graphic display with a resolution of 132x64 pixels.

Below the display are four user-programmable, context-sensitive function keys. And on the right are two backlit keys, on which you can hang any functions.

To control the settings in the Snom D120, a proprietary four-way joystick with two buttons located on the sides for confirming and canceling an action is used, which is well known to us from other models. This layout allows you to set up the device much faster, and most importantly, it is more convenient and familiar to many users.

Separately, we want to pay attention to the shape of the tube. It is made in the same classical style as the device, without any unnecessary frills, while it is quite functional and fits perfectly even in a wide male hand.

I note that if necessary, you can connect an RJ-4P4C headset to the phone instead of a handset. Under it on the body of the phone behind bars is a speakerphone.

The D120 comes with a branded stand that allows you to install the device at an inclination of 35 degrees on a table or cabinet.

Well, if you need to hang the phone on the wall, then you have to purchase a special bracket.

There are two RJ-45 connectors for connecting to a computer network. The device is powered either via a network cable (PoE) or from an external network adapter (not included).

Functionality

Although the Snom D120 is the base model, its feature set is, if modest compared to more expensive models, not by much. However, judge for yourself.

The device supports two SIP-identifiers, which expands the communication options for business users, allowing you to receive two calls at once. The D120 is compatible with most popular IP-PBX platforms. To facilitate integration into standard telephone networks and comfortable work with them, the developers equipped the device with support for In-band DTMF, out-of-band DTMF and SIP INFO DTMF.

The undoubted advantages include the automatic answer function, as well as call forwarding. If necessary, up to 250 contacts can be stored in the phone's memory, which is quite enough to solve most business problems.

Built-in digital signal processor through the use of proprietary algorithms provides high-quality voice transmission and reproduction without annoying interference and delays.

The liquid-crystal display installed in the device is distinguished not only by high brightness and contrast, but also by wide viewing angles. No need to frantically peer into small numbers and try to understand who called you. On the D120 display, you will see all the information as clearly as possible, even when you are at a noticeable distance. Also, a large indicator of calls and incoming messages is visible from afar, located in the upper right corner of the case - you will not miss an important call.

All settings of the operating modes of the device are performed using a convenient and intuitive menu with support for several languages.

The user has the functions of speed dialing, a log of received, missed and dialed calls and, of course, a call hold function. And so that your interlocutor does not think that the connection was interrupted in hold mode, the phone can play a melody. Of course, call hold must be available on your IP PBX for this to work.

Like all Snom phones, the D120 allows for three-way conferences. And with the built-in speakerphone (Hands-free talk (Speakerphone)) you can communicate with colleagues on the phone, even walking around the table.

I would also like to note the presence in the phone of the multicast paging function, which is very popular among users. For many companies, this is not just a function, but a vital tool for building and maintaining marketing and business communications. If you need to go away, you can quickly lock the keys on the phone, thereby protecting the phone book and call log from prying eyes.

Well, so that the sound of an incoming call does not make you jump in your chair “like scalded”, choose the most suitable melody from 10 stored in the device’s memory.

Advanced configuration and management of the phone is carried out using the built-in web server, access to which is password protected.

For easy integration into the office network, the machine is equipped with a 2-port 10/100 Mbps Ethernet switch. Plug & Play technology and all major voice protocols and codecs are supported (G.711 A-law, μ-law, G.722 (wideband), G.726, G.729AB, GSM 6.10 (FR)). And thanks to the dual stack of IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, you can use both versions for voice communication.
