Official position of the Program Committees of Highload++ and other IT conferences on claims against Igor Sysoev and Maxim Konovalov

Attack on Igor Sysoev, an outstanding programmer and creator Nginx, a product distributed under a free license, that is, available to everyone for free to use and study the source code, is a blatant act of aggression against the entire industry.

We express our support to Igor, and we want to especially note his contribution to the development of the industry. Igor laid the foundation for the high-quality work of more than 80% of all highly loaded RuNet resources. He and his product became the catalyst that allowed Russian services to be competitive in the global market and take a leading position in the development of projects that can withstand heavy loads.

We establish a prize, present it to the best developers, supporting in every possible way and talking about any developments to which Russian programmers are related. And what do we get as a result? One of the market players, it turns out, is not interested in developing this market.

We would also like to note that claims against open source products in general, and nginx in particular, call into question the economic security of the largest Russian and world services that use nginx and other open source products. In addition, such actions will negatively affect the investment climate in the Russian IT industry and may lead to degradation of the industry itself.

We strongly condemn the actions of the initiators of the persecution, and also call on the technical specialists of these companies to convey to their management the full absurdity and enormity of what is happening.

The situation when every programmer, with any commit to an open source project, must think about the legal safety of his actions, seems to us to be a stopping factor for the development of the industry.
