Principles of PIM Protocol Operation

The PIM protocol is a set of protocols for multicast transmission in networks between routers. Neighbor relationships are established similarly to dynamic routing protocols. PIMv2 sends Hello messages every 30 seconds to the reserved multicast address 224.0.0.13 (All-PIM-Routers). The message contains Hold Timers, usually equal to 3.5 times the Hello Timer, which is 105 seconds.

Terraformer — Infrastructure To Code

I would like to talk about a new CLI tool I created to solve an old problem. The issue surrounding Terraform has long become a standard in the DevOps/Cloud/IT community. It is very convenient and useful for dealing with infrastructure as code. There are many delights in Terraform, as well as many pitfalls, sharp knives, and rakes. Terraform makes it very easy to create new things.

Robots in the data center: how can artificial intelligence be useful?

During the digital transformation of the economy, humanity must build more and more data centers. The data centers themselves must also transform: issues of their fault tolerance and energy efficiency are now more important than ever. These facilities consume a vast amount of electricity, and failures of the critical IT infrastructure housed within them are costly for businesses. Artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies come to the aid of engineers.

How access to pages distributing prohibited content is blocked (now the RKN also checks search engines)

Before we proceed to describing the system responsible for filtering access by telecom operators, it is noteworthy that Roskomnadzor will also begin overseeing the operations of search engines. Earlier this year, a procedure for monitoring and a list of measures to ensure that search operators comply with the requirements to cease providing information about internet resources that are restricted in the territory of the Russian Federation was approved. The corresponding order from Roskomnadzor […]

Let's count the 'Inspector' agents

It is no secret that the automated system 'Revizor' monitors the control of blocks based on the list of prohibited information in Russia. This is well described in this article on Habr, with the image sourced from there: At the provider, the 'Revizor Agent' module is installed: The 'Revizor Agent' module is a structural element of the automated system 'Revizor' (AS 'Revizor'). This system is designed to oversee […]

Challenging migration of RabbitMQ to Kubernetes

RabbitMQ is a message broker written in Erlang that allows for the organization of a fault-tolerant cluster with full data replication across multiple nodes, where each node can handle read and write requests. With numerous Kubernetes clusters in production, we support a large number of RabbitMQ installations and faced the need to migrate data from one cluster to another without downtime. This […]

9. Check Point Getting Started R80.20. Application Control & URL Filtering

Welcome to lesson 9! After a short break for the May holidays, we continue our publications. Today we will discuss a topic that is no less interesting, namely — Application Control and URL Filtering. This is often the reason companies buy Check Point solutions. Need to block Telegram, TeamViewer, or Tor? That’s what Application Control is for. We will also cover […]

Visual programming for Sonoff Basic

An article on how to create a programmable logic controller from a cheap Chinese device. Such a device will find its application both in home automation and as a practical exercise in school computer science. For reference, by default, the Sonoff Basic program works with a mobile application through a Chinese cloud service; after the proposed modifications, all further interactions with this device will become […]

Application Centric Infrastructure. The network architecture of the future — from thoughts to action

In recent years, Cisco has been actively promoting a new architecture for building data transmission networks in data centers — Application Centric Infrastructure (or ACI). Some are already familiar with it, while others have even implemented it in their enterprises, including in Russia. However, for most IT specialists and IT leaders, ACI remains either an unclear abbreviation or just […]
