What kind of holiday is this?
There is such a portal which, due to its focus, proposed to declare November 12 a holiday - Security Specialist Day.
It was assumed that this holiday would be celebrated by all people associated with the protection of people and values. However, with the spread of computer technology and the growth of offenses in the IT field, this red date began to acquire an increasingly IT focus.
No, well, it’s clear what about security, but specifically?
IT security is a colossal layer of human knowledge, including a wide variety of areas and areas.
There are specialists who prevent network attacks, thanks to whom we can connect not only individual computers to the Network (ARPANET, we remember you), but also entire states.
There are cryptography specialists, including mathematicians. Mathematicians who develop the very encryption algorithms and steganography methods through which we can trust that information is transmitted and stored in integrity and confidentiality.
There are those who fight against malicious code, study the software implementation of all kinds of viruses and Trojans (malware and stalkerware) so that our computers and mobile devices remain free of all rubbish.
There is a whole area whose specialists deal with security systems. Including exciting ones that are familiar to us - video surveillance (CCTV). And then there are those who design and install all kinds of sensors (detectors), control units, and analysis systems. Therefore, it is not so easy to simply steal or spy on protected objects.
There are people specialists whose areas of expertise include identifying insiders and protecting against social engineering attacks. And these are not only administrators who block USB ports, but also specialists from various fields, including psychologists who know how to recognize and smooth out “protest
mood" in the team.
There are specialists who check the safety of ready-made devices. They look for “bookmarks” and check for the possibility of leaks through electromagnetic radiation. This is also a very interesting area of IT security.
There are many more different directions...
And there are many situations when one single person is responsible for everything at once.
And thanks to these people, we use computers without fear that information will “leak to the outside” or simply turn out to be incorrect. Each of these people makes a contribution, small or large, to the overall fight against IT threats.
When everything is fine, we usually don’t notice them, and sometimes we even scold them in vain because of additional “troubles” like long passwords or “eternally dissatisfied” antiviruses.
