What is this holiday, anyway?
There is such a portal which, due to its focus, proposed to declare November 12 a festive date — Security Specialist Day.
It was expected that this holiday would be celebrated by everyone involved in protecting people and values. However, with the spread of computing technology and the increase of IT-related crimes, this red date has begun to take on a more IT-oriented focus.
Well, it's clear that it's about security, but specifically?
IT security is a vast realm of human knowledge, encompassing a wide variety of fields and areas.
There are specialists who prevent network attacks, allowing us to connect not just individual computers (ARPANET, we remember you), but entire nations.
There are cryptography specialists, including mathematicians, who develop the very algorithms for encryption and methods of steganography, ensuring that information is transmitted and stored with integrity and confidentiality.
There are those who tackle malicious code, studying the software implementation of various viruses and trojans (malware and stalkerware) to keep our computers and mobile devices free from unwanted pests.
There is an entire domain where specialists work on security systems, including those that delve into the familiar area of video surveillance (CCTV). Additionally, there are those who design and place various sensors (detectors), control blocks, and analysis systems. Therefore, it’s not easy to simply steal or spy on protected entities.
There are specialists who work with people, focused on identifying insiders and protecting against social engineering attacks. These aren’t just administrators blocking USB ports, but experts from diverse fields, including psychologists, who can recognize and smooth out 'protest moods' within teams.

There are specialists who check the security of already finished devices. They look for "backdoors" and check for the possibility of leaks through electromagnetic radiation. This is also a very interesting area of IT security.
There are still many different directions...
And many situations where a single person is responsible for everything at once.
And thanks to these people, we use computers without fear that information will "leak out" or simply be incorrect. Each of these individuals contributes, whether small or large, to the common cause of combating IT threats.
When everything is fine, we usually don't notice them, and sometimes we even unfairly complain about additional "hassles" like long passwords or "constantly dissatisfied" antivirus software.
