Volvo Cars continues to implement its Vision 2020 strategy to achieve zero fatal accidents involving its new vehicles. The next innovations are aimed at combating drunk drivers and inattention behind the wheel.

In order to constantly analyze the condition of the motorist, Volvo suggests using special interior surveillance cameras and other sensors. If the driver, due to distracted attention or a state of drunkenness, ignores the car's signals warning of the risks of an accident, the assistant systems for driving the car in this particular situation will be automatically activated.

In particular, on-board electronic assistants can provide a smooth decrease in speed up to a complete stop, as well as automatic parking of the car in a safe place.

The cameras will respond to driver behavior that could result in serious injury or death. This, in particular, the complete lack of steering, driving off the roadway or being behind the wheel with your eyes closed for a long time, as well as extreme wobbling from lane to lane or excessively slow reaction to the traffic situation.

The cameras will appear in all Volvo vehicles built on the new SPA2 platform, which will be released in the early 2020s. The number of cameras and their location in the cabin will be announced later.

We add that earlier Volvo decided to introduce a hard limit on the maximum speed on all its cars: drivers will not be able to accelerate more than 180 km / h.
