Broadcom has unveiled the world's first mobile device chip supporting the Wi-Fi 6E standard. In addition to significantly improved data transfer rates, the new wireless module boasts 5 times less power consumption than its predecessor.

The new Broadcom chip, labeled BCM4389, also supports Bluetooth 5, and its main purpose is smartphones. In addition to reduced power consumption, the company promises in the new product data transmission at speeds up to 2,1 Gb / s, which is 5 times higher than the transfer rate provided by modules with support for Wi-Fi 6 - 400 Mb / s.

In addition, the BCM4389 supports operation in the 6 GHz band without losing backwards compatibility with 2,4 and 5 GHz frequencies. The 6 GHz band expands the bandwidth by 1200 MHz to support 14 new 80 MHz channels and 7 new 160 MHz channels.
