Sony at MWC 2019 introduced its new flagship device Xperia 1, which for the first time in the market received an OLED display with 4K resolution (CinemaWide 21:9 wide aspect ratio - 3840 × 1644). This, however, is not its only feature: the new display will also work in native 4K resolution for the first time in smartphones.

The fact is that the Xperia 1 is not the first phone with a 4K display from Sony. That title belongs to the Xperia XZ Premium introduced in 2017, followed by the Xperia XZ2 Premium in 2018. However, both previous phones that technically have 4K screens by default used a four times lower Full HD resolution.
Full native 4K resolution was only enabled when a particular application supported 4K. In the case of the Xperia 1, the device runs in 4K mode all the time, including the user interface and firmware, and disables this high-definition display mode only if the application does not support it.

In theory, this will lead to even higher clarity of images and texts, but the price can be quite high: drawing the interface in 4K will take more resources and, accordingly, the charge of the relatively modest Xperia 1 battery (3300 mAh).
Technically, watching 4K video on a 6,5-inch 4K screen might be tempting, but many people can't tell even QHD from Full HD on such a relatively small display. Therefore, until now, many manufacturers even produce flagships with FHD or FHD + screens.

On the technical side, the smartphone can offer a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip, 6 GB of RAM, a flash drive with a capacity of 64 GB or 128 GB (plus support for microSD cards), a rear camera with three 12-megapixel sensors and an 8-megapixel front camera. The Xperia 1 is powered by Android 9 Pie operating system, the device is protected from moisture and dust in accordance with the IP68 standard.
