At the end of last week, great news emerged: two of our partners (Huawei and
Nutanix) announced a partnership in the field of HCI. Huawei's server equipment has now been added to the Nutanix hardware compatibility list.
Huawei-Nutanix HCI is built on the FusionServer 2288H V5 platform (this is a 2U dual-processor server).
Jointly developed solution aimed at creating flexible cloud platforms capable of handling enterprise virtualization tasks, including core services, private and hybrid clouds, big data operations, and ROBO. We plan to receive equipment from the vendor for testing soon. Details below.
Today, the popularity of hyper-converged systems is growing worldwide. They are built from unified blocks that include both computing resources and data storage resources.
The advantages of hyper-convergence include:
- Easy and quick deployment of infrastructure.
- Simple and transparent horizontal scaling by just increasing the number of universal blocks.
- Elimination of a single point of failure.
- A unified management console.
- Reduced requirements for maintenance personnel.
- Independence from hardware platforms. New capabilities can be provided to the user without being tied to the equipment they use (no dependency on specific ASIC/FPGA).

HCI allows for the popular cloud consumption model (the economic principle of pay-as-you-grow/on-demand) to be transferred to your local on-premise infrastructure without compromising information security.
Today, the number of system administrators in companies is decreasing, while their areas of responsibility are expanding. One of the biggest tasks for system administrators is maintaining the current infrastructure. The use of HCI saves IT staff time and allows them to focus on other activities that bring additional benefits to the company (such as developing and increasing the availability of infrastructure, rather than just maintaining it).
Returning to the news about the partnership: as usual, we will conduct basic tests on data security and overall solution resilience to offer customers only verified solutions.
Synthetic tests are not the best tool for testing the performance of HCI solutions because depending on the profile of the synthetic load, we can get either very good results or unsatisfactory ones.
