GDC 2020 postponed to summer due to coronavirus

Despite ad NVIDIA on the decision not to cancel its main annual event, the GTC (GPU Technology Conference), due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, a consonant event from the world of computer games, nevertheless decided to postpone it to a later date.

The event, which has been running since 1988, was scheduled to take place from March 16 to 20 in San Francisco.

β€œAfter close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and the community around the world, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Game Developers Conference this March,” reads an announcement posted Friday evening on the GDC official website. β€œHaving spent considerable time this past year preparing for the show with our advisory boards, speakers, exhibitors and event partners, we are genuinely upset and disappointed that we cannot host you at this time.”

Informa, which is responsible for hosting the GDC, intends to bring together its participants "later in the summer", but has not yet provided details on this issue.

"We will be working with our partners to finalize the details and share more information about our plans in the coming weeks," the event's website said in a statement.

It should be noted that the announcement did not say a word about the coronavirus outbreak, although it was because of it that the decision to postpone was made. A few hours earlier, Amazon announced its decision to skip this year's GDC due to a deadly infection. Previously, Sony, Facebook, Electronic Arts, Kojima Productions, Unity, and Epic announced they were withdrawing from the event.
