In the middle of 2018, we are on My Circle , with the help of which everyone can find out what their employees think about the company as an employer. And today we are glad to present the first annual rating of companies "Best Employers in IT 2018, according to My Circle". We want to make this rating a good tradition and release it annually.
Since the launch of the service, about 5000 employees have given their ratings to more than 900 companies. As a result, at the moment, 150 companies have received a public assessment, having collected opinions about themselves from 10 or more employees. It is these companies that have become participants in our current rating.
Employees rate their employers on 12 qualities, each with a score ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). From employee ratings, the average rating of each quality is calculated (as a weighted average), and from the ratings of qualities, the average rating of the company as a whole (as an arithmetic average). We compare these average estimates of the company as a whole to build a rating. and the rules for their calculation.
We also compare companies' ratings for each of the 12 qualities, and if a company is in the top three for this quality, we assign it a corresponding nomination.
Companies in the rating compete in 4 "weight" categories:
- Huge companies (xbig). For companies with more than 5000 employees, the “normal” (median) score is 3.6.
- Big companies (big). For companies from 1000 to 5000 employees — 4.2.
- Medium companies (medium). For companies from 100 to 1000 employees - 4.5
- Small companies (small). For companies from 10 to 100 employees — 4.6.
In each weight category, the companies ranked in the top 3 by overall average rating among the companies in their category are listed first. The following are the companies that are in the top 3 according to the ratings of specific qualities: here the overall average ratings are no longer taken into account and are displayed only for sorting.

General view of the estimates
Size matters
Now let's look at employers' assessments in general: how the assessment of a company depends on its size and type, as well as what qualities and in which companies are valued more.
The first thing we see is that the larger the company, the lower its average rating. Based on this pattern, we divide our rating into 4 weight categories.
If we compare companies by individual qualities, we see the same picture: the larger the company, the lower its average score for any of the 12 qualities. The only exception is the Social Package quality: for small companies, the average rating of this quality is not the highest, as for other qualities.
If in each weight category we arrange the qualities of the company from the highest score to the lowest, we will see which qualities are rated higher and which are lower. Of the most common patterns, it is worth noting the following:
- In all weight categories "Management literacy", "Recognition of the results of work" and "Salary adequacy" are among the four lowest rated qualities of the company. While "Relationships with colleagues" and "Professional growth" are among the four most highly valued qualities.
- In all weight categories, except for huge companies, the top four most highly valued qualities also include “Comfortable working conditions”. And in all weight categories, except for small companies, there is also “The company makes the world a better place”. In small and large companies - also "Modern Technologies".
- An interesting trend: “Connection with top management” is rated lower and “Social package” is rated higher as the size of the company increases, which is quite logical.
Product and outsourcing companies
If we consider separately from each other product and outsourcing companies, which are approximately equally divided in our rating, we can make the following observation:
- For both types of companies, “Relationships with colleagues”, “Comfortable working conditions” and “Professional growth” are among the four most highly valued qualities, and “Management literacy”, “Recognition of work results”, “Salary adequacy” and “Social package” are in the top four lowest rated.
- At the same time, in product companies, “The company makes the world a better place” falls into the top four of the most highly valued qualities, and “Modern technologies” in outsourcing companies.
The most important qualities on the part of the applicant
And what are the qualities of an employer that job seekers consider the most important? It turns out that for the majority, the most important qualities are “Salary adequacy”, “Professional growth”, “Management literacy” and “Interesting tasks”, and the least important ones are “Connection with top management”, “The company makes the world a better place” and “Social plastic bag".
It turns out that, in general, companies provide quite a good level of "Professional growth", an average level of "Interesting tasks" and a rather low level of "Management literacy" and "Salary adequacy".
