Netflix to start filming Resident Evil TV series in June

Last year, Deadline reported that a Resident Evil series was in development for Netflix. Now fan resource Redanian Intelligence, which previously revealed information about The Witcher series, has uncovered a record of the production of the Resident Evil series, which confirms some key details.

The show must include eight episodes, each lasting 60 minutes. It's worth noting that this season structure quickly became the standard for Netflix original series. In addition to confirming that filming will begin in June, the record also reveals that prep work on location will begin in April, with the main production center based in South Africa. Previously, films based on Resident Evil were filmed mainly in Canada and Mexico.

It was previously reported that the German distribution and production company Constantin Film is responsible for the film. The TV series and pre-existing films are not planned to be combined into a single canon, in addition to the main plot scheme, which will tell about the dubious experiments of the Umbrella Corporation.

If no reshoots are needed, it will take several months for processing, voice acting and editing, so the project's debut could take place around the same time as The Witcher last year, that is, in winter. If the team does not make it in time within these tight deadlines, then the release may be delayed until spring 2021. Perhaps we will learn more about the series closer to April, when Resident Evil 3 Remake is expected to launch.

Regardless of what many people think of past Resident Evil adaptations, the six-film series has earned over $1,2 billion worldwide and holds the record for the most of any live-action adaptation.
