After three years since the release of the last significant branch, version 4.2.0 of the mdadm package has been launched, which includes a set of tools for managing software RAID arrays in Linux. Notable changes in the new version include the ability to build with GCC 9 and expanded support for IMSM (Intel Matrix Storage Manager) RAID arrays, along with the functionality of Partial Parity Log (PPL), which allows for the retention of additional redundant data to reduce the likelihood of data corruption (Write Hole) in case of a desynchronization between disk contents. The new version also enhances support for clustered RAID1/10 (Cluster MD), enabling the deployment of software RAID across all nodes in a cluster.
