113 packages in Void Linux have been left without maintenance due to disagreement with AI usage policy.

Andrea Brancaleoni has discontinued support for 113 packages in the Void Linux distribution in response to intolerance towards the use of AI tools for analyzing changes and performing routine tasks. Packages left without support include alacritty, arpwatch, asus-kbd-backlight, clementine, docker-cli, etcd, flint, forego, fscrypt, kubernetes, libguestfs, libnfc, moby, openresolv, packer, racket, rancher-compose, terraform, thermald, trollock, ttf-ubuntu-font-family, vagrant, and virt-manager.

Two days ago, during the evaluation of package compatibility with the new version of the Go programming language, Andrea published statistics listing the packages that encountered build issues after updating the toolchain, along with an analysis of the changes in Go that caused these problems. One member of the Void Core Team asked how the comparison was prepared, to which Andrea admitted that he used a standard tool with the AI agent OpenCode and the AI model GLM-5.3-flash.

A participant from the Void Core Team responded that he was not willing to wade through the maze of AI-generated text and quoted a passage from the project's rules, stating that only changes prepared by humans would be accepted and allowing the use of AI tools solely for research and training purposes. The rules specify that code, documentation, bug reports, comments, and pull request descriptions must be created by individuals who understand the content's essence.

Andrea explained that the text he submitted is simple to understand, and he vouches for the information in it. In response, a member of the Void Core Team stated that the rules clearly indicate that text cannot be generated through AI, regardless of whether the developer vouches for it. Andrea replied with a thumbs-up emoji and removed himself from the list of maintainers.
