On February 23, 1993, Ruby was introduced — a dynamic, reflective, interpreted high-level programming language. The language features an operating system-independent implementation of multithreading, strong dynamic typing, a garbage collector, and many other capabilities. Its syntax is similar to Perl and Eiffel, and in object-oriented approach, it resembles Smalltalk.
Some of the language's features are also derived from Python, Lisp, Dylan, and Clu. The cross-platform implementation of the language interpreter is completely free.
