Microsoft has ambitious plans for the data center market. According to confidential documents obtained by Business Insider, the company links its increased activity to the AI technology boom and intends to significantly expand the capacity of its new data centers before the end of the current calendar year. Since July 2023 (the beginning of the current fiscal year), Microsoft has commissioned new data centers with a capacity of 500 MW. Judging by the documents leaked to reporters from the Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation team, the total capacity of Microsoft’s data centers exceeded 5 GW in the first half of the current fiscal year.
