On May 4, AlmaLinux OS Foundation announced the release of the beta version of AlmaLinux 10.2 "Lavender Lion" for the following architectures:
- Intel/AMD (x86_64)
- Intel/AMD (x86_64_v2)
- ARM64 (aarch64)
- IBM PowerPC (ppc64le)
- IBM Z (s390x)
Beta ISO images are available for download at repo.almalinux.org.
Changes:
- includes Python 3.14, PostgreSQL 18, MariaDB 11.8, Ruby 4.0, and PHP 8.4 as new packages, along with built-in tools SDL3, libkrun, trustee, and FIDO Device. Container and virtualization support has been updated with the latest versions of Podman, Buildah, libvirt, QEMU-KVM, and skopeo. Updated policies for OpenSSL, OpenSSH, SSSD, SELinux, cryptographic policies, and Keylime ensure system security and reliability;
- also includes i686 userspace packages, enabling the use of legacy 32-bit software, CI pipelines, and container workloads in AlmaLinux 10.
For reference: AlmaLinux OS is a Linux distribution based on the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It is an enterprise-grade distribution with regular releases and long-term support created by Cloudlinux in response to Red Hat's premature termination of CentOS support in 2021. Among Linux users, AlmaLinux has become a replacement for CentOS alongside Rocky Linux, VzLinux, and Oracle Linux.
