Version 3.20.0 of the Alpine Linux distribution has been released, offering initial support for 64-bit RISC-V. Other significant changes include updates to GNOME 46, KDE Plasma 6, and the replacement of Redis with Valkey due to the adoption of Redis's non-free license model. Alpine Linux is a minimalist distribution built on musl libc and busybox, making it small and highly resource-efficient. The container needs no more than 8 MB, while a minimal installation on disk requires about 130 MB of memory. The distribution also supports various processor architectures, including x86_64, x86, aarch64, armv7, ppc64le, and others.
The distribution includes its own package manager apk. The initialization system is OpenRC.
