AlpineBSD — a distribution with a NetBSD kernel and a system environment in the style of Alpine Linux

The AlpineBSD project develops an operating system that runs a user environment based on the Alpine Linux distribution over the NetBSD kernel. In addition to the NetBSD kernel, AlpineBSD utilizes the standard C library libc and a set of low-level utilities such as mount. The core set of utilities is formed based on the BusyBox toolkit, and application packages are sourced from Alpine Linux whenever possible. The package manager apk is used for package management, and the s6 system is used for initialization, although there are plans to provide support for OpenRC as an alternative.

The project adheres to a strict policy regarding AI and attempts to avoid using software that contains code generated through AI as much as possible.
The inclusion of components created through AI is prohibited in the core system and primary package repository. All packages that include code, documentation, binaries, and other resources created through AI are marked with a special label and are distributed through a separate 'tainted' repository. The use of AI tools is also prohibited during the development of AlpineBSD.

AlpineBSD currently lacks a separate installer and installation builds. For testing the project, it is suggested to boot from a NetBSD installation medium, then download the apk package manager build, add the repositories, install apk packages, and configure the s6 initialization system.
