The developers of the Arch Linux distribution have announced their decision to transition all the source code of components used to build packages, such as PKGBUILD files, ".install" and ".desktop", to the 0BSD license, which can be viewed as akin to a public domain translation. Previously, the source code of the packaging build scripts in Arch Linux was distributed without a license, which led to uncertainty, allowed for varying interpretations of usage possibilities, and created issues when trying to incorporate them into other projects with strict licensing policies.
Starting today, contributors to Arch Linux will receive emails listing their contributions. If a developer agrees to have their work distributed under the 0BSD license, they can simply ignore the incoming email; however, if there are any objections, they should specify them in a reply and discuss possible alternatives.
