In the mailing list, Levente Poliak, the Arch Linux project lead and head of their security team, published a message about closer collaboration with Valve.
We are pleased to announce that Arch Linux is entering into direct cooperation with Valve. Valve generously supports two key projects of ours that will significantly impact our distribution: the build infrastructure and the secure signing system. With Valve providing support for these efforts on a contractual basis, we can focus on them without solely relying on our volunteers’ spare time.
This opportunity allows us to address some of the most pressing issues we have faced for a long time. The collaboration will accelerate progress that would otherwise take significantly longer, ultimately enabling us to finally start implementing some of the planned initiatives. We are incredibly grateful to Valve for making this possible and for their clear willingness to help and support Arch Linux.
These projects will be executed according to our standard development processes and consensus-based decision-making. [RFC] will be created for any major changes. Discussions in this mailing list, as well as tasks, milestones, and planning in our GitLab repository, will ensure transparency and understanding of the workflow. We are confident that this collaboration will bring considerable benefits to Arch Linux, and we look forward to sharing further updates in this mailing list as work progresses.
