The ongoing shortage of memory chips is prompting many to creatively approach purchasing memory at reasonable prices. Against this backdrop, ASRock has introduced a new motherboard that supports both DDR4 and DDR5 RAM, allowing users to choose the option that suits them best.
The H610M Combo II model is a motherboard with an LGA 1700 socket that supports Intel's 12th, 13th, and 14th generation processors. It comes in a Micro-ATX form factor and features three RAM slots: one for DDR4 and two for DDR5 sticks.
The DDR4 slot can accommodate a module of up to 32 GB with a speed of 3200 MT/s. The two DDR5 slots allow for a total installation of up to 96 GB of RAM, operating at a speed of 5600 MT/s, provided a 14th generation processor is used. This configuration is unusual, as both DDR4 and DDR5 memory are typically recommended for dual-channel mode. Clearly, the manufacturer assumes that users might want to install a single DDR4 module as a temporary solution until they obtain a proper dual-channel DDR5 kit.
Otherwise, the motherboard's configuration is quite straightforward. It has one PCIe 5.0×16 slot for a graphics card, one PCIe 3.0×1 slot for expansion cards, and one PCIe 3.0×4 slot for an M.2 storage device. Power is provided by an 8-phase system (6+1+1). There are two USB 3.0 ports, several USB 2.0 ports, and an Ethernet connector.
The specified characteristics, combined with the appearance of the H610M Combo II, indicate that this is a basic motherboard targeted at the budget segment. The retail price of the new model and the timeline for its availability have not yet been disclosed.
