A new version of the free audio editor has been released. Audacity.
Changes:
- Instead of a clip moving tool on the timeline, each clip now has a header that can be dragged.
- Non-destructive clip trimming by dragging the right or left edge has been added.
- The loop playback feature has been redesigned, and editable loop boundaries are now available on the ruler.
- A context menu has been added under the right mouse button.
- Removed hard dependencies on local versions of several libraries, simplifying the build for Linux distributions.
Muse Group's policy has not changed since the release of the previous version in July: both the automatic request to the server for the availability of a new version and sending crash reports to developers are optional features. They are disabled by default when building from source code. In ready-made builds, the update check can be turned off in the settings, and crash reports can simply be not sent.
Support for non-destructive effects and integration of two GSoC projects from this year is planned for the next major updates: a spectral brush and mixing separation into sources (a mixed composition loaded into a single file will be split back into its components using a machine learning-based engine, e.g., drums, bass, guitar, piano, vocals). Both GSoC projects have been successfully completed but need some refinement. Students' reports with details, screenshots, and more can be read in the project blog.
