The LineageOS project has launched a new section for firmware usage statistics. It is reported that the project has nearly 1.5 million active installations, of which only 26% (374 thousand) are official builds, while 74% (1.1 million) involve unofficial builds compiled by third-party projects. Leading the device rankings is not a smartphone, but Waydroid — an environment for running Android applications on Linux. In second place is the Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone, which has over twice as fewer installations compared to Waydroid.
The highest number of installations comes from the USA (339 thousand installations), China (298 thousand), Brazil (280 thousand), Russia (62 thousand), and Vietnam (55 thousand). In Russia and the USA, 2/3 of installations are not on smartphones: in the USA, installations are popular in Waydroid, Nintendo Switch, and Raspberry Pi, while in Russia, almost all installations are done via Waydroid. In China, Brazil, and Vietnam, most installations are on smartphones: in China, the Xiaomi Mi 8 leads by a large margin, in Brazil — Motorola moto g7, and in Vietnam — Samsung Galaxy S7.

Only 8.8% of installations use the latest version LineageOS 23.2, while 8.1% and 5.4% use versions 22.2 and 21.1, for which updates to fix vulnerabilities are being actively formulated. 73.4% of installations are on outdated versions 20.0 (29.9%), 18.1 (23.7%), 17.1 (14.3%), and 19.1 (5.5%). For LineageOS branches 18, 19, and 20, backporting patches to fix vulnerabilities continues, and currently, fixes from the July Google update are available for them. The backporting process for LineageOS branches 14, 15, 16, and 17 has become significantly more complicated due to changes in codebases. Updates for LineageOS branches 16 and 17 are available as of November 2025. For branches LineageOS 14 and 15, patch adaptations for November 2025 are planned soon.
Among other recent achievements of LineageOS, the start of development for LineageOS 24 based on Android 17 and the introduction of a web interface for installing the firmware through Chromium-based browsers supporting the WebUSB API can be noted. Reflashing is possible in ADB modes (Recovery mode), Fastboot (Fastboot / Fastbootd), and Odin (Samsung).
A significant update to the Updater app is also mentioned, featuring a new interface that utilizes the Material 3 Expressive design concept. The transition to default use of A/B OTA update streaming in which packages are unpacked into an inactive system partition during download, without prior saving to a file, has reduced memory consumption and accelerated update installation.
