The web-platform-tests are generated as part of the Interop initiative, jointly promoted by Google, Mozilla, Apple, Microsoft, Bocoup, and Igalia, aimed at verifying the level of web technology implementation in browsers and identifying discrepancies that affect the appearance and behavior when processing websites.
The Ladybird browser is being developed by Andreas Kling, who once worked at Nokia and was involved in Safari development. Initially, the project was created as an application for the SerenityOS operating system, but this summer it was spun off into a separate project and received a donation of 1 million dollars. The browser is written in C++ and is distributed under the BSD license. The project develops its own engine, LibWeb, the JavaScript interpreter LibJS, and associated libraries.
The Servo project was originally developed by Mozilla but later came under the auspices of the Linux Foundation. The engine is distinguished by its support for multi-threaded rendering of web pages, parallelizing operations with the DOM (Document Object Model), and utilizing safety programming mechanisms provided by the Rust language. Servo was initially created with support for breaking down the DOM code and rendering into smaller subtasks that can run in parallel and use multi-core CPU resources more efficiently. Some parts of Servo, such as the multi-threaded CSS engine and the WebRender rendering system, have already been integrated into Firefox. The browsers ServoShell and Verso are based on Servo.
